The value of digital evidence depends on source, time, integrity, lawful collection and the ability of the other party to test it, rather than on a screenshot alone.
Capture context, not only the screen
Keep the full URL, account identifier, publication date, time zone, surrounding content and linked files. Where possible retain the native file, metadata, headers and cryptographic hash, and log every later handling step.
What does a notarial record prove?
A notarial record can document what was visible at a particular time; it does not alone prove legality, truth or authorship. Judicial preservation or expert examination may still be necessary.
Integrity of logs
Explain the system clock, source, retention policy, access rights and export method. Missing periods, shared accounts or clock drift can weaken the link between a person and an event.
Lawful acquisition
Unauthorised access, bypassing restrictions or collecting excessive personal data creates separate risk and may affect use of the evidence. Define purpose, scope and chain of custody before collection and retain the original.
