The divorce itself, arrangements for children, maintenance and property claims involve different questions. Begin by identifying what is agreed, what is disputed and what documents exist.
Agreed or contested proceedings?
An intention to separate alone does not establish an agreed divorce. Statutory conditions and judicial assessment still apply. In contested proceedings, the events, legal grounds and admissible evidence matter. A downloaded petition or agreement may leave important issues unresolved.
Children and maintenance
Care arrangements, schooling and everyday needs should be described concretely. Income, expenses and employment information inform maintenance questions. The child’s best interests guide the assessment; parental agreement does not automatically determine every outcome.
Matrimonial property
Liquidating a matrimonial property regime involves questions distinct from the divorce decree. Dates of marriage and acquisition, funding, personal-property claims and debts may all matter. The name shown on a title deed or account does not alone determine the available claims.
Preparing for an appointment
Prepare a short chronology, any served documents, an existing agreement and relevant financial records. Preserve evidence lawfully and do not access someone else’s accounts. Avoid sending children’s, health or third-party information through the general form; agree how to share documents separately.
